BREAKING: Mark Drakeford to announce a policy of ‘home rule' for Welsh Labour.

First Minister Mark Drakeford plans to have Wales “take ownership of its own destiny,” by securing a “home rule" according to the leader’s plans for Welsh Labour’s Spring Forward event.

Drakeford is set to say that a home-ruled Wales would be “Internationalist, not nationalist. Outward facing, not inward looking.” This suggests a more friendly take on independence , where we work together as part of a global community with the potential of forming a British Council, an organisation that would function similarly to the EU.

Further on in the speech, Mark Drakeford will say “Yes to a Wales that takes ownership of its own destiny alongside working people in Scotland, England and Northern Ireland who share our progressive values,” and “Yes to a Wales which has the confidence of knowing that we are at our best when we break down barriers, not build them up; where we create our future alongside others, not despite or against them.”

This was announced after another YouGov poll suggested 51% of Welsh Labour supporters backed Welsh independence.

Not all responses to the news were happy with Andrew RT Davies saying that Mark Drakeford was “undermining Britain,” and “pandering to the separatists.”

This has a total contrast to the proposed plan of the Spring Forward event speech, where we mentioned earlier that Drakeford expressly stated “we create our future alongside others, not despite or against them.”

YesCymru reacted positively to this news, saying that it was “lovely to see Mark Drakeford shifting his position. What an impact YesCymru is having!”
